Ennio Morricone had already established himself as a musician equally at home with classical and pop melodies when he reluctantly, almost ashamedly, tried his hand at composing for the movies. Morricone believed his cinema career would be short-lived, but after over 400 such efforts—including some of the most iconic and memorable film scores ever written—fate turned out differently.
In honor of Giuseppe Tornatore’s epic documentary portrait ENNIO, we present a diverse cross-section of Morricone’s filmography from his essential collaborations with Sergio Leone (ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA, the Dollars Trilogy), Brian De Palma (THE UNTOUCHABLES, MISSIONS TO MARS), and Tornatore himself (CINEMA PARADISO) to rarely-screened entries such as THE MERCENARY, MACHINE GUN McCAIN, and RED SONJA.
