For the entire month of September the Music Box Theatre is proud to present “Fresh Films: A Celebration of 50 Years of Hip Hop,” a 17-film series celebrating hip hop’s long-running, symbiotic relationship with cinema. From the early-‘80s pioneering films that helped bring hip hop to the world, to later films showcasing the acting talents of rap superstars, and satires poking fun at the inevitable exploitation of one the most important cultural movements of the 20th century. These are films bursting at the seams with joy, pathos, acerbic social critique, eye-popping fashion, and ageless beats, meant to be seen on the big screen with a big crowd and the volume turned way up.
Join us for a month of some of the greatest hip hop films ever made, along with special guests, filmmaker discussions, DJ sets, garden movies, curated preshows, and more!
Programmed by Camryn Lewis and Rebecca Lyon. Presented by MUBI Go.
