Reeling presents its 41st edition as the second longest-running LGBTQ+ film festival of its kind in the world. This year's festival boasts 54 programs, including 42 feature films and 12 shorts programs, representing work from 25 different countries, with 5 World and 2 U.S. Premieres.
On Opening Night September 21 Reeling returns to the Music Box Theatre with director Andy Vallentine's THE MATTACHINE FAMILY, featuring Wilmette native Nico Tortorella as one half of a couple whose first foster child returns to his birth mother, forcing them to confront their differing ideas about what makes a family. The festival continues at the Landmark and Chicago Filmmakers theaters. Highlights include Centerpiece Film Tom Gustafson's GLITTER & DOOM, a vibrant musical romance set to the tunes of the Indigo Girls, with a phenomenal cast that includes Missi Pyle, Ming-Na Wen, Lea DeLaria, Tig Notaro, and others; and the U.S. Premiere of Emily Railsback's shot in Chicago film AMERICAN PARENT, about the everyday chaos of a lesbian couple raising a toddler.
